Sankar Sridhar, a mountaineer and a photographer, started a career in journalism six years ago as a freelancer. His articles, ranging from adventure and extreme sports, weekend getaways to dying art forms, have appeared in The Times of India, The Statesman, The Telegraph, Bhraman India Travel, Discover India, Swagat, India Today Travel Plus and Outlook Traveller. He took up full-time journalism with The Telegraph in 2001. In 2005, he joined Daily News and Analysis, Mumbai, as senior copy editor. Sridhar’s affair with the lens began during one of his earliest treks in Sikkim, with a hotshot camera.

Sridhar’s passion for the altitude led him to Ladakh, a place he first visited in 1998 on an expedition. Nine years into his love affair with the place, Sridhar still looks forward to his yearly pilgrimage to Ladakh. In fact, that’s what keeps him going for the rest of the year as he counts his days in concrete jungles. His photographs have won him awards at national and international contests, including salons in Korea and Portugal and the international contests hosted by various clubs across India. He was one of the winners of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs photo contest in 2003, which had the theme “Life in the mountains”. More recently, his photographs were displayed at the Incredible India photo exhibition held in January 2007.
